State Boards Hit by Cyberattacks
Sen. Bart Williams told a Senate hearing that two state boards are currently down because of hacks, citing fragmented IT across agencies.
Two state licensing boards are currently offline because of cyberattacks, Sen. Bart Williams said during a Senate Government Structure Committee hearing on Wednesday.
Williams, who co-chairs the Senate’s new Select Committee on Cybersecurity, said the board-by-board approach to information technology across state government has left agencies exposed.
“We’ve got a situation where we’ve got two hacks occurring at the moment and fragmentation across services,” Williams said. “It kind of unfortunately validates a lot of the concerns that we’ve got.”
Earlier in the hearing, the committee’s chairman said roughly a third of state agencies have not completed their required cybersecurity assessments.
Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann created the Senate Select Committee on Cybersecurity in August, with Williams and Sen. Tyler McCaughn as co-chairs.
