Private Investigator to Subpoena Apple - Leflore Supervisors Vote
Leflore supervisors vote to hire private investigator over tracking device on county vehicle
The Leflore County Board of Supervisors voted to hire a private investigator and subpoena Apple to identify who placed a tracking device on a county-owned vehicle.
The motion came during the board's Oct. 6, 2026 meeting. A supervisor identified as Supervisor Moore told the board, "My motion is that this board uh employ a private investigator/investigator uh to subpoena Apple for the owner's identity of the tracking device that was placed on a county owned vehicle and for the lawyer to ensure that we're on good footing in doing so." The board approved the motion, directing the county attorney to first confirm the board has solid legal standing before proceeding.
A follow-up motion seeking the vehicle's full location history failed for lack of a second, leaving that question unresolved.
The vote means public funds will go toward a private investigator and legal review tied to the tracking device, an unusual expenditure that raises questions about surveillance and due process. The failed second motion suggests supervisors were not unified on how far the inquiry should extend. The cost of the investigator and the identity of the motion's maker have not been independently confirmed against county records.
