Mayor Addresses AI Turbine Issue - Southaven
SOUTHAVEN - LOCAL Mayor Calls Data-Center Turbine Noise 'Unacceptable'
The Southaven Board of Aldermen heard Sept. 2 that noise from turbines at the city's data-center site remains unresolved even as officials framed the project as a national priority.
At the meeting, the official presiding as mayor, Darren Musselwhite, addressed complaints about turbine noise at the SpaceX/xAI data-center site. "The problem is that they do have spikes in the noise and it's unacceptable. And I've explained that to them. It's unacceptable," he said.
The remarks tie a local land-use and noise dispute to broader framing of the project as important to the artificial-intelligence competition with China, even as the mayor's own words acknowledge the noise problem has not been resolved more than a year into the project.
