JACKSON — Jackson City Councilman Stokes told colleagues during budget deliberations that a former city employee admitted to stealing roughly $1 million from the city and was never required to repay it, despite entering a guilty plea.
"This lady came in here and told us we took a million dollars. We got the paper to show you where they stole it. And the audit didn't make them give it back to us," Stokes said, adding that "everybody who pleaded guilty didn't have to give us our money back."
He offered no further identifying details during the meeting.
