Senate Cybersecurity Committee Created - Hosemann
JACKSON — Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann announced Thursday he has created the Senate Select Committee on Cybersecurity to study the security of Mississippi's state and local government information systems and review enforcement of penalties for cybercrimes.
"Too many Mississippians find themselves the victims of cybercrime," Hosemann said in a statement. "Criminals are using technology to steal identities, target state assets, and exploit vulnerable individuals. We have a responsibility to ensure our laws keep pace with these evolving threats and provide law enforcement with the tools needed to protect Mississippians."
The committee will be co-chaired by Sens. Bart Williams and Tyler McCaughn, with members Sens. Bradford Blackmon, Scott DeLano, Jeremy England and Rod Hickman. It is expected to hold hearings this fall and develop recommendations for the 2027 Legislative Session.
