Reeves Appoints Renee McBride Porter Chancellor for 10th Chancery Court District
Governor Tate Reeves on Tuesday announced the appointment of Renee McBride Porter of Columbia to the Office of Chancellor for the 10th Chancery Court District.
The appointment fills a vacancy created on August 16, 2026, by the retirement of Judge Chase Ford Morgan. Porter’s appointment takes effect August 17, and she will serve the remainder of the four-year term.
“Renee has devoted her career to serving Mississippi families and children,” Reeves said. “Her experience in chancery and youth court matters, combined with her commitment to public service, makes her exceptionally qualified to serve the people of the 10th Chancery Court District.”
Porter currently serves as youth court referee and special master of Marion County. Before that appointment, she served for more than 12 years as guardian ad litem in Marion County, representing the best interests of children in court proceedings.
Porter has been in private practice in Columbia since 1989, focusing on chancery court matters. She has trial and appellate experience, including successful appeals before the Mississippi Court of Appeals and the Mississippi Supreme Court, and previously served as city prosecutor for Columbia.
She earned her J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law and her B.S. from the University of Southern Mississippi.
