Rankin Settles Marina Tax Dispute

RANKIN COUNTY — The Rankin County Board of Supervisors approved a settlement ending litigation over a tax assessment on Sunset Marina property leased from the county, an official told the board Wednesday.
"There are no prohibitions in this agreement. There are no non-disclosure clauses. There is no mystery. Everything is documented," the official said. The tax assessor had valued the property at roughly $3 per square foot; the lessee, represented by attorney Jeff Webb, argued for about $1 per foot. The settlement sets the rate at $2.75 per foot and bars the lessee from appealing assessments for three years.
