PERS Seeks New Director - Search Starts
PERS board hears 12-to-14-week timeline for executive director search
The Mississippi Public Employees' Retirement System Board of Trustees received a report on the search for a new permanent executive director at its October 29 meeting.
A trustee identified in the meeting as Breland, reporting on behalf of the board's special search committee, told the board that "the committee met this morning and discussed the details of the expected timeline for the search for a permanent executive director replacement at Mississippi PERS." He said the preliminary timeline is "approximately 12 weeks, 12 to 14 weeks," and will include surveying board members, posting and advertising profiles, and starting the process under the system's contract with Cummings Leadership Search, which he said "will coordinate and accompany us in the process of searching for the next CEO." The report did not require a board vote.
PERS is one of Mississippi's largest financial institutions, managing more than $40 billion on behalf of public employees and retirees. The identity of its next leader matters to stakeholders across the system, including taxpayers who back its obligations, and comes amid recent scrutiny of the system's funded status.
