Natchez selects engineering firm for Canal Street Bridge replacement
The Board of Aldermen has chosen Waycaster Duncan to provide engineering services for the Canal Street Bridge replacement, a project funded by an FY26 MDOT earmark.
At the Sept. 23 meeting, Mr. Johnston presented a staff report on the selection process, telling the board that two proposals were received. "Two proposals were received. Horizon Engineering and Waycaster Duncan... A summary of the ranking of the proposal received is as follows. Horizon Environmental LLC 249, Waycaster Duncan 280," he said. Johnston said staff was "requesting a motion to seek concurrence on the selection of Waycaster Duncan to provide the engineering services needed and then to commence negotiation with Waycaster Duncan for the engineering services."
The board approved the motion, clearing the way for city staff to begin fee negotiations with the firm.
The project is tied to a federal earmark secured through the Mississippi Department of Transportation for the 2026 fiscal year, moving the bridge replacement toward its next phase. Selection of an engineering firm typically precedes cost estimates and design work, steps that will determine the scope and eventual price tag of the Canal Street Bridge project as it advances through negotiation.
