Moss Point Board Adopts FY2027 Budget, Trims Millage Rate
The Moss Point Board of Aldermen unanimously adopted a Fiscal Year 2027 budget and a companion tax levy resolution during a special called public hearing Sept. 9, 2026.
The budget totals roughly $8.8 million in general fund spending, $29.1 million in grant-funded capital projects, $1.3 million in debt service tied to two outstanding bond issuances, and $10.8 million for the city's water, gas, sewer and garbage utility fund. Presiding over the meeting, the mayor told the board, "All budgets are a projection. And it can be amended at any time. At the will of the majority of the board, we can make those amendments." The mayor's identity was not stated directly in the meeting record but was inferred from the chair's role in calling the session to order and ruling on motions.
City finance consultants said the property tax millage rate declined slightly this year even as property assessments rose. The adopted budget includes sizable grant-dependent capital spending and debt service obligations on the two bond issuances, alongside the utility enterprise fund covering water, gas, sewer and garbage services.
