Medical Licensure board moves to cut application fee from $550 to $150
JACKSON — The Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure told the Senate Government Structure Committee on Wednesday that it plans to cut its physician application fee from $550 to $150.
“We are moving pretty much full force towards cutting the application fee from 550 to 150 due to just some efficiencies we’ve been able to achieve in partnering with some other agencies and data banks,” a board official told the committee.
Board officials estimated the change would reduce revenue by about $800,000 a year.
The board said it holds a capital reserve of about $13 million, which it estimated would cover roughly three years of operations, and that the reserve has been growing by about $1.2 million a year.
The testimony came as the committee examined fee levels and reserves held by Mississippi’s professional licensing boards.
