McComb Push for Surveillance Cameras

McComb Police Seek DOJ Grant For 60 More Surveillance Cameras

The McComb Police Department is pursuing a Department of Justice grant to fund 60 additional surveillance cameras across the city, pending formal board approval.

At an Oct. 22 work session of the McComb Board of Mayor and Selectmen, the police chief told board members, "I was asking for 60 more cameras across the city," describing the request as part of the department's five-year plan. The chief's exact name could not be confirmed from the meeting record; the board chair referred to the speaker as "Chief Perry" before the item, though a different officer was later addressed as "Chief Miller" during other business. Officials said a technical holdup threatened to derail the application, which faces an Oct. 27 deadline, and that the city could not apply without board authorization and a letter of support. As of the work session, that approval remained outstanding.

The proposal represents a significant expansion of the city's surveillance footprint, funded through federal grant money rather than local budget appropriations. Because the application was being pushed to meet a tight federal deadline, formal board authorization had not yet been granted when the matter was discussed, leaving the scope and oversight of the camera network still unresolved.
