Leflore Supervisors approve $2 Mn Loan - Settlement amount kept from minutes
GREENWOOD — The Leflore County Board of Supervisors approved a $2 million loan on July 28 to fund emergency storm cleanup while the county waits for federal reimbursement.
County Administrator Cynthia Stansel asked the board to "obtain a loan in the amount of $2 million to cover the emergency storm cleanup and debris removal while awaiting reimbursement from FEMA." Stansel told supervisors the county had secured the lowest available rate, 4.59 percent, from Bank of Commerce. The board approved it.
At the same meeting the board voted to accept a settlement offer in a matter involving Manny Riley. "Request approval to accept the Manny Riley settlement offer," Stansel told the board. "Again, board, that settlement offer is in your packet. And I think you will be happy with the amount of that settlement offer." Board discussion indicated the settlement figure would not be entered into the public minutes. The nature of the underlying claim was not detailed in the public meeting.
Supervisors also heard a request from Mississippi Delta Community College for a larger county appropriation. Its president told the board: "This year I'm coming asking you for a .75 increase which is about $200,000 increase in our maintenance and other operations," linking the request to renovation costs at the college's recently purchased Maloof building. The board took the request under advisement for budget deliberations.
