It wasn’t me – says School Superintendent Evans

By The Wire  ·   ·

Mississippi State Superintendent of Education Lance Evans told the State Board of Education Wednesday that his agency played no part in deciding how a legislatively-mandated pay increase for special education teachers would be structured, saying the delay in getting funds out was caused by the need to seek clarification from lawmakers.

"MDE did not have any decision making in that process — that was a legislative decision," Evans said. He added the agency has no separate pool of money to cover funds misdirected under the law. Evans said MDE has since shared legislative responses with teachers, superintendents and business managers.
