IT Overbilling $1.3 Million - City Scandal
Jackson mayor says IT department found $1.3 million in overbilling
Mayor John Horhn told residents the city uncovered more than $1 million in improper charges on a single contract, though he did not identify the vendor.
Horhn made the disclosure during his 2026 State of the City Address, delivered Oct. 14 from the Office of the Mayor. "Our IT department discovered $1.3 million in overbilling on one contract," Horhn said. "We strive to return every dollar we can."
The mayor's remarks came in the course of a broader address on city operations, but he offered no further detail on which contract or vendor was involved, nor did he specify how much of the money, if any, has been recovered so far.
The finding touches on a recurring concern for Jackson taxpayers: oversight of municipal spending. An overbilling discrepancy of this size on one contract represents a substantial sum for a city budget, and residents are likely to want to know which vendor was involved and whether the full $1.3 million has actually been returned to city coffers. Those details were not addressed in the mayor's address.
