Pearl pursuing Entergy infrastructure upgrades for advanced-manufacturing site

City officials say Pearl is working to secure additional utility infrastructure for a site on West Rankin Parkway ahead of possible advanced-manufacturing development.

At the Sept. 1 regular meeting of the Pearl Board of Aldermen, Mayor Jake Windham told the board the city met with the governor's office that same morning to discuss the site. "We had a meeting at the governor's office this morning. We're really trying to get with Entergy for us to provide more infrastructure to our West Rankin Parkway side," the speaker said, adding the goal was to have the site "fitted out" for "advanced manufacturing or something else."

The speaker said a follow-up meeting with Entergy is planned later this month, along with Rankin First and the Rankin County Board of Supervisors, including "a couple of those guys that'll be Jake Bishop." The remarks were made before the board formally called the meeting to order. "We're trying to set that site fertile for major development in the future," the speaker said.

No financing details, dollar figures or specific companies were disclosed at the meeting. Any future infrastructure work, incentives or site-preparation funding would likely require action from the Board of Supervisors and coordination with Rankin First, the county's economic-development arm.
