ICE working in Rankin - deal agreed
Rankin County Sheriff authorized to enter ICE task force agreement
The Rankin County Board of Supervisors approved an agreement allowing the Sheriff's Department to work with federal immigration authorities under a task force arrangement.
At its regular meeting Sept. 30, 2026, the Rankin County Board of Supervisors approved, as part of its consent agenda, "authority for the Sheriff's Department to enter into a Service Agreement with the United States Department of Homeland Security U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for providing resources to operations pursuant to the Task Force Model (TFM) Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and authority for the Sheriff to execute documents," according to the board's minutes. The item was not discussed separately.
The agreement marks an expansion of local-federal cooperation on immigration enforcement, a matter tied to broader questions of government oversight and policing powers. It was approved as part of the routine consent agenda rather than taken up individually by supervisors.
