Hinds County considers engineering firm for Presidential Hills sewer project

The Hinds County Board of Supervisors weighed a motion Nov. 2, 2026, to hire IMS Engineers for a $500,000 sewer and drainage project in the Presidential Hills area.

The motion, brought by District 2 Supervisor Tony Smith at the board's Nov. 2 meeting, called for a "motion to approve the designation and appointment of IMS Engineers as the engineering firm for the Presidential Hills Sewer and Drainage Project, which the Hinds County Board of Supervisors is currently administering, and to authorize the Board President and Board Attorney to negotiate and execute any necessary contracts, task orders, or agreements related to this project." The $500,000 for the project would come from 2026 legislative appropriations, according to the board's agenda.

The vote result on the motion was not immediately confirmed, nor was the scope or duration of the engineering contract spelled out in the agenda.

The arrangement would give the board president and board attorney authority to negotiate further task orders under the project without bringing each one back to the full board for a separate vote, a structure that places both the half-million-dollar state appropriation and the oversight process worth watching as the project moves forward.
