Greenwood Leflore school board approves $38.5 million high school contract
GREENWOOD - The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District Board of Trustees voted at a special call meeting September 9, 2026, to approve a $38,530,828 construction contract with Thrash Commercial Contractors for the district's new high school.
A speaker identified by the board chair as Dr. Kenneth Pulley told trustees "the district is recommending Thrash Commercial Contractors to build a new high school in the amount of $38,530,828 based on all value engineering efforts realized by the contractor and through consultation with the district architect and project manager." The board's project manager said the contract includes roughly $1.5 million in contingency funds and a liquidated-damages clause requiring the contractor to pay $1,000 per calendar day for unjustified delays. Wednesday's vote covered only the academic portion of the project; the board had earlier separated the school's academic and athletic construction into distinct phases.
The contract represents one of the larger capital commitments taken on by the district, financed with public school funds. Its contingency allowance and daily liquidated-damages provision are the kind of figures typically tracked as the project moves from bid to construction, giving taxpayers a way to follow costs as the building phase proceeds.
