Free Federally Funded Laptops for Greenwood

By The Wire  ·   ·

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District is requesting vendor pricing to provide every teacher with a new laptop and protective case.

At the district's work session Sept. 30, a speaker identified in meeting records as Superintendent Kenneth Pulley told board members, "We are seeking proposals, um, for technology vendors... we're wanting to, uh, provide our, uh, teachers, uh, all of our teachers with, uh, new laptops and protective cases." The remarks came as part of a sequence of agenda items presented without a clear hand-off between speakers, according to the meeting record. The speaker said the purchase would be funded with federal dollars.

The item was presented as part of a request-for-proposals process, with the district still in the stage of soliciting vendor pricing before any contract value is set. No total cost or specific federal funding source was given at the meeting.

A district-wide laptop refresh for all teachers would represent a significant technology expenditure for the district. Because the purchase is tied to federal funds and remains in the preliminary RFP stage, the eventual cost and vendor selection are likely to draw further scrutiny as the process moves forward.
