Fix Highway 26 Fast, says Commissioner
A Mississippi Transportation Commission member pressed agency staff this week to give "the greatest urgency" to repairs on Highway 26, saying overlapping closures with Wade Vancleave Road during bridge work were creating a "major major inconvenience" for residents.
"I would just ask you to give it your greatest urgency, please, so that we can get that Highway 26 repaired and get it open again," Commissioner Busby told staff during the commission's regular meeting. Staff indicated the repair would likely move forward under an emergency contract, to be ratified by the commission after the work begins.
Brad White, head of the Department of Transportation, later indicated that repairs to Highway 26 will likely be handled through an emergency contract issued before commission approval, with the commission voting to ratify it afterward. "That will more than likely be an emergency contract that'll be done for the commission to ratify after the fact".
