"Don't track how we use county vehicles" - Leflore Officials
Leflore County supervisors vote down GPS tracking for county vehicles
The Leflore County Board of Supervisors rejected a motion to install GPS tracking devices on all county-owned vehicles, including those used by supervisors themselves.
At the board's weekly meeting Tuesday, the supervisor identified in the board's record as Supervisor Abraham proposed the measure, telling colleagues, "With gas and diesel prices as they are, it is my opinion, and I did this when I was a county administrator, that we need to put GPS in all vehicles, including those of the supervisors. And that is the motion I present." The board's chair announced afterward that Supervisor Abraham had proposed, and Supervisor Brown had seconded, that GPS be added to all vehicles.
The motion failed on a split vote, with Supervisors Mitchell and Collins recorded as voting against it.
The rejection comes as fuel prices remain elevated, a factor Abraham cited directly in making the case for tracking. Votes on oversight measures for taxpayer-funded vehicles, particularly those involving officials' own transportation, are closely watched in Mississippi county government, and the named dissenting votes make this a concrete, on-the-record split rather than a routine procedural matter.
