BROOKHAVEN - The department has secured two grants totaling $118,000 for e-citation technology, radios and badges, though a local matching share still must be confirmed.

Chief Mayfield told the Board of Aldermen on Sept. 2 that the money had arrived in two deposits. "We did get some uh money on a grant last week of 40,000 that got deposited into the city. And then also today we received another grant for 78,000," Mayfield said, describing the funds as part of a law enforcement grant covering the equipment upgrades.

Mayfield also told the board the grants carry a required local match, though the exact percentage and dollar amount were not specified in the meeting record. City officials have not detailed how the matching funds would be budgeted. The grant program's full name and terms were not confirmed at the meeting.
