Brookhaven aldermen approve RFP for 40 police laptops

City technology officer Patrick Brown told the board the purchase would be funded through an existing state grant. "We have the $250,000 grant through the police department, um, that we're about to start spending items for," Brown said, adding, "I need permission to begin an RFP process uh, for 40 mobile laptop systems." He said the equipment would cost "about $168,000." The board approved the request without objection.
The purchase counts as reportable public spending under Mississippi's public-money standards, since the laptops are being bought with state grant funds routed through the police department, even though the procurement itself follows routine city bidding procedures.
