Biloxi councilman questions value of $96,000 lobbyist contract

BILOXI - At the Biloxi City Council's Aug. 11 administrative budget workshop, Councilman Gray criticized the city's $96,000 annual lobbyist contract, saying the lobbyist "came sit out here and didn't even address the council whenever he was here." Gray said, "Diamond Head got almost 5 million. Dville got what? Seven. Pascola got five. We got nothing again." He suggested the council consider hiring a different lobbyist, arguing the $96,000 "we can use that somewhere else."
Gray's figures for the neighboring cities' grants were his own recollection and were not independently verified at the meeting. The exchange came amid council debate over whether the lobbying contract is producing measurable results for taxpayers.
