1 in 5 Kids with Special Needs - Humphreys County School District

Humphreys County School District interim superintendent Stanley K. Ellis told the Mississippi State Board of Education on Sept. 18 that HVAC failures at the district's elementary school amount to "a nightmare," noting the units have never been serviced since the building opened in 2000. Ellis also said special education is "the big elephant in the room" for the district, with roughly 200 of the district's 980 students on individualized education plans. The district, under state transformation status since 2019, has raised its high school rating and graduation rate, Ellis said
